A Committed Love

Revelation 3:16
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Have you ever loved someone who didn’t love you back with the same commitment and depth of emotion? Have you ever had a relationship in which you were committed, but the other person blew hot and cold? Some days they loved you, some days they didn’t. Maybe they only loved you when there was no one else or they needed you. Maybe they wouldn’t completely let you go just in case they needed you again and so you wasted away in what felt like an emotional abyss until you found the courage to cut the ties?

This may seem like an odd introduction to a devotional, but many people I know have had such a relationship in their life rather it was romantic, or friendship, or even a family tie. If you have, think about how it made you feel. I know what a mess I was when I went through something similar. If you haven’t known anyone that treated you this way, think about it and think how it would make you feel.
But isn’t that how we frequently treat our relationship with God? He’s committed. He created us. He sent His Son to die for us. He loves us with an everlasting love. We want Him when we need Him, when it’s convenient, when we have nothing else. We treat Him the very same way that breaks our hearts when someone else does to us. Doesn't He deserve more?
