Bear no Burden on the Sabbath
Jeremiah 17:21
Thus saith the Lord; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;
There is so much to unpack in this little verse. We have truly gotten away from honoring the Sabbath. In my childhood, even though I wasn’t raised in a Christian home, Sundays were a day of rest. This is no longer true, even with a lot of Christians.
Every day should be about worship and honoring God, but especially the Sabbath.
We also need a day of rest. God took a day of rest in the creation. How can we not think we need that day? I am self employed and often find myself completing little tasks on Sunday afternoon that I didn’t finish during the week. I end up stretched too thin and often enter the evening church service feeling that stress instead of entering the service rested and prayed up and ready to worship. My disobedience in bearing a burden on the Sabbath doesn’t just affect me, it effects the worship of those around me as well.
So, remember, you need the rest on Sunday and God desires your full attention and worship. You obedience isn’t just about you; it impacts others as well.
