Get the Enemy Out!

Ecclesiastes 9:9

Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun

My heart breaks at how common divorce is even among Christians. It’s almost as if we don’t give it a second thought. I am facing a second divorce. We both professed salvation in both marriages, yet both ended. I left my first marriage. He’d quit church for a few years. I went through my own crisis of faith. In the middle of this, we were hit with a very hard season in our marriage. I justified my wrong actions, as most of us do. I have also deeply regretted the hurt I caused my Savior and my children with those wrong actions.

Fast forward, ten years later, I am in a second marriage. This time during a hard season, it was my husband who wanted to end the marriage. His justification? God wanted him to be happy. Apparently, God wanted him to be happy more than he wanted him to be obedient. To be honest, I wasn’t happy during this time in our relationship either. But I also knew that if we would be obedient to God, He would get us through and on the other side of this difficulty, we’d be blessed. My husband made the same choice I’d made ten years earlier with someone else, to give in to the immediate gratification rather than honor his vows.

Recently my heart has been broken again to learn of a Christian couple who God has called to ministry throwing everything away during a hard season.

Why does the enemy attack our marriages? The reasons are many. As important as church is, the home is where we really have an impact on our children for Christ. It hurts our witness and negatively affects our ministry, even ending our ministry depending on what we’ve been called to do. The spouse God has given you is not just your marriage partner, life partner, that person is your

ministry partner. Stop letting the enemy make what the Bible says God hates (divorce) normal for Christians. Stop destroying your families, your witness, your ministry over a temporary hardness.
