Put Away Your Strange Gods and Be Clean
Genesis 35:2
Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
When you come to know Christ, it’s time to put away and change. There are things in your life that will not have a place in your life anymore. That could include many things, recreational drugs, drinking, bad language, sex outside of the bonds of marriage, and many others. When Christ cleans us up, the desire for these things usually change. But sometimes we have to do a little work as well. Long held habits are easy to fall back into if we don’t make changes that align with the change in our heart. Friendships will change, past times will change to honor your new life. Some things will be obvious, some will require prayer, and all will be unique. When my dad got saved, he gave attending college football games regularly. Attending football games isn’t a sin, but for him, he felt he needed to put his focus on other things to stay on the straight and narrow. My son didn’t drop all of his lifelong friends when he got saved. But he did change how and how often he interacted with them. He found other friends to “hang out” with. If you do not put away things that do not honor God, clean up habits and your life, and change some of your activities and friends after coming to know Christ, you will eventually be living the very same life. And the world will not see the difference.
