Still Small Voice
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not
In the fire: after the fire a still small voice.
I Kings 20: 12
I was pondering on this scripture this week. I am familiar with God speaking in the still small voice, because that’s usually my problem – I’m looking for the thunder. But as I read I Kings 19: 11- 12, I began to ponder many things. God says He wasn’t in the wind, and He wasn’t in the earthquake, and He wasn’t in the fire. Isn’t He in everything? Yes, God is in ultimate control of everything. No storm, real or figuratively speaking, comes into our lives without His permission. That doesn’t mean it orchestrates with Him, only that He allows it. (Reference Job). Does God sometimes allow these storms to get our attention so that we hear that still small voice?
