What Will Your Children Inherit?

Updated: Mar 26, 2022

Proverbs 13:22

A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just

What kind of inheritance are you leaving your children? David was a man who certainly grappled with the flesh, which affected his children. But he was also a mighty man of war. And because of that, Solomon inherited a peaceful kingdom.

Just because we are Christians, doesn’t mean we won’t mess up. We will. Probably a lot. The people who will see this is our family, the people we love the most, the people we influence the most. How do we keep our failures from hurting our kids? We have the humility to admit we were wrong, seek forgiveness, and REPENT. We talk to them about these things. We DON’T live a different life at home than we do at church. Don’t watch things, read things, use language, justify lies or cheating, or use things or people in a way that you would not want your pastor to see at home. God still sees. And your children still see, and you are hurting them.

Our influence on the lives of our children is so brief. Give them all the Jesus you can while you can. Get them in church, have family devotions at home, be bold enough to keep them from wrong influences even if everyone else is doing it, set boundaries, and set the right example. These are all very important things we need to do as Christian parents. We also need to fight those spiritual battles through prayer. Pray for your children before they’re born, before they’re even conceived, and NEVER stop. That’s how we give our children a peaceful inheritance. What kind of inheritance are you leaving yours?
