Matthew 13: 3-8
3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
The seeds are the Word of God. The soil is your heart.
4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
The fowls represent the devil. This is an example of the person who hears the Word, but instead of letting the Word start stirring their heart, they harden their heart. They let the devil “snatch” the Word through distraction, hardness of the heart, or whatever. This person doesn’t accept.
Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
This is the person who let emotion instead of true conviction lead them to make a profession. Or the person, for whatever reason, prayed a prayer they didn’t mean. (Salvation is simple. It is just asking Jesus to forgive you and be your Savior. But you must be called by the Spirit of God… you can’t make that decision just because you want to AND that prayer must be sincere) There is no root here because there was no real change.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
I think this person could be a believer. But if they are, they are the person who is always a bad witness, who never grows spiritually, has trouble being dedicated, NEVER MAKES AN IMPACT FOR CHRIST. They let the world choke out the Word.
8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
This is the person who makes a true confession, who is truly saved. They won’t be perfect. They will slip and fall. They may even backslide, but if they do, they will come back. But overall, this is the person who remains faithful, dedicated, who seeks to grow closer. Most of all, this is the person who wants to advance the kingdom.
WHICH SOIL ARE YOU?
